The merging of social networks with gaming seem to be popping up everywhere. A couple of months back I reviewed an awesome one for tweens (Be Tween Talk) and now here is another one for a little bit older (Doof). While MOST of the games are suitable for any age -- I think any social networking site involving kids needs to be monitored. Doof also includes betting on games so this also raises the age limit. While you can play without betting (as I did -- called Quick Play) you might not want a teen with a credit card tempted to suddenly add points to bet with. I would recommend signing up first and exploring the games, layout and all the multitude of activities they have and THEN getting the kids geared up to play. You can also set privacy settings and not add unwanted friends to make this an even safer environment. With no ads it is a great site to visit and play some games.
I wanted to give a fair warning as I would on ANY social networking site regarding kids but the site is very kid friendly. They have a couple of games that I would consider for older kids including a spy game called "Secret Agent" with shooting but you are shooting targets not people. Also a Driving game, "House Party" where you want to keep the cool chick cars in tact and get rid of the nerd cars so that the cool chicks get to your party..... There's one more to give warning of -- the "Flick the Nuts" game while cute as you are trying to flick nuts past squirrels and into a goal -- has squirrels bleeding if you hit them instead of the goal.... OK -- those three games aside which would be for older kids -- this site is very innovative and fun. I had my 5 year old playing some of the games (Gold Fishing is her favorite) and with supervision this site would be fine for any age. I liked that they have the games broken into categories; action, arcade, card, puzzle, racing, shooting, sports and strategy.
I cannot give direct links to the games because you need to join first but membership is free. I can give you links to their blog so you can find out more about the games. Some of the games I recommend are:
Gold Fishing -- My kids LOVED this game. You are essentially fishing for gold and aim to reach the amount the gold is worth on each level. This had my son saying how much money was needed and doing Math -- which is never a bad thing!
Cascade 2 -- Get 3 or more of the same colors together -- similar to games on some other sites and very addicting and fun.
Parking Mad -- Have never seen a game like this and it is a good one. Use the arrow keys to get your car into a parking spot.
Star Lines -- Drag the row of stars so you get 3 in a row. Fun Game!
Bob Jones -- For the people that love the frantic pushing arrow key games similar to the Dance Dance Revolution games -- this is for you... Press the arrow keys in order to get Bob Jones to his treasure chest.
Classic Games such as Sudoku and Word Search are really well done on this site. Sudoku starts at easy and you play harder levels.... Word Search you have a time limit to find all the words.
This site is fun -- no doubt about it. I can see them adding more and more games and it growing in popularity. It has a teenage feel to it but I know adults would have fun as well. As mentioned, with supervision you can find fun games for ANY age. Sign up for Doof and play some Fun Online Games, play against friends and see what the future of gaming online will look like.
